This week, back in 2005 (!) I started this blog. It was under a different name, but the content has always been much the same - a bit of this, a bit of that, pictures, and snippets of my daily life. In short, exactly the kind of blog that I like to read. It's always been something that I do for fun, when I take time, with no pressures of having to post certain things at certain times. I have no aspirations for zillions of followers, no plans of quitting my day job - I think it's still just how I like it.
But this, folks, is what I want to (literally) share with you today. On the walls of our stairwell, we've had a variety of decorative things which have been repeatedly knocked off or broken. I wanted a little something to add some interest, without posing a hazard or temptation. I ordered a *giant* sheet of seagull decals in grey, and put some of them up, which I'm enjoying. I'm hoping that the sense that they might get pooped on will make the boys hurry up the stairs for baths. (Not so far.)
To the point - I only used a very few of the decals from the sheet that I ordered, and I have 10 others that didn't make the cut. On this, my 7th blogging anniversary, I want to send them flying out to you! The first ten commenters, teling me something you love about my blog and / or that you might like to read more about here (no guarantees I'll do it - no pressure, remember?) will receive a decal in the mail. If you see that your comment is one of the first 10, e-mail me your name and mailing address (grahamsherrieATyahooDOTca) and I'll do my best to get those out this week. If your comment is after #10; you might still get a decal if I can't get someone else's information. And I *love* reading comments!
Thank you so much for reading along. I'm so happy that I've had the chance to 'meet' you, and I wish you could all come over for tea. With biscuits and jam. And lots of butter.
Oooooo!! I think I'm first!!! I love getting to know you better Sherrie! I love how you are real. You talk about everything and anything. Sometimes you post a lot, sometimes not so much. I love to see what you find at Frenchy since I can not go there myself! I love your taste in foods and your "old-fashionedness". Keep it coming girl!!! Those seagulls will really remind me of home :D
ReplyDeleteYou're so sweet, Jenn! I love the thought of a gull at your house, reminding you of home. :)
Deletecute! cute! cute!
ReplyDeleteHi Raegan! Send me your mailing address, and I'll pop one in the mail for you. Or you can pick it up, if you like. :)
DeleteMy good friend, Jenn A above, sent me your blog today. I know I've visited before, but it's been a while. I too love blogs that have a little bit of everything and that show the real life of the blogger. Thinking back to the previous times I've browsed your blog, I think what I love best is the peacefulness in your posts.
ReplyDeleteThose seagulls are cute! My kids, my son especially would love them.
I've been reading your blog for just over a year now Sherrie, and have enjoyed making your recipes and reading about your life. It's always so open and refreshing. Also love the quirky use of the seagulls - especially the one seated at the top of the stairs!!
ReplyDelete5 Years! Wow! Congratulations.
x
Oh dear Sherrie. I've mentioned here before (and on my own blog) you are the reason I discovered the blogging world. You were the very first blog I read... and that I am still checking first thing in the morning with my cup of coffee. The first day I read your blog you were talking about blueberry syrup and pancakes and you were pregnant with Mr. P. I love everything about your blog because I love blogs that talk about a bit of everything. Most awesome is the day we first met at the Superstore, me coming in the exact same moment you were coming out.
ReplyDeleteYou're so sweet, Vickie! I love the thought of people stopping by to check in as part of precious morning time. That was kind of magical when we met up at the Superstore! :) The invitation still stands for tea - any time you're in town!
DeleteI love this blog because of you. Your photography, your gentle words, the glimpses into your beautiful home. Makes me want to pick up and move to Yarmouth...
ReplyDeleteOf course it does, because you should! Set up a delicious bakery and have great customers like us lined up at the door. I know a great house you could buy... :)
DeleteI got my gull in the mail yesterday, and it is AWESOME!! Thanks so much! Now I'll just have to decided where he's going to live... xox
DeleteLove the seagull decals, Sherrie, but don't feel pressure to send one. I love your blog because it makes me feel like you're a friend even though we've never met. Your blog inspires me because it shares glimpses into a real life centred on things that are also important to me - handmade, cooking from scratch, pleasure in simplicity, love & generosity - and because you fill your life with these things you love while raising two lovely boys. I don't know how you do it all, but I'm about to find out if I can too - waiting on the birth of my first babe. I know I'll keep looking to your blog for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI would love a searchable archive or tags because I've read every post and often want to reference back to recipes, tips, and stories about motherhood.
Margaret, a decal is on the way! Thanks for your sweet comments. :) I think that your suggestion for archives or tags is perfect. I'm not quite sure how to go about that in the least time-consuming way possible, but I'm thinking about it. In the meantime, you can always use the search bar in the top left corner - I use it often. P.S. I don't do it all! P.P.S. I can't believe someone other than me has read every post! I'm blushing. :)
DeleteOh my gosh! I LOVE those gull silhouettes! You don't need to send me any (postage is nuts in Canada!) but if you could please tell me where you got them, that would be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAs a veritable stalker of your blog (if you ever get tired of me stalking you, just let me know), you know that I love everything about it - everything that others have listed and also the resources you post. I think I met you through all the soaper bloggers that I got acquainted with back when I first started doing MP soaps, and you're one of the few that I still follow regularly. That says something, doesn't it? :)
p.s Happy Bloggaversary!!
DeleteOf course I'll send one! Stalk on. I can't remember the name of the company, but I have it in the pile to my left. I'll send it along once I unearth it. :)
DeleteI love coming to 'visit', and do so often.
ReplyDeleteYou're grounded and real, and interested in life. I so enjoy the snippets you share with us here.
Plus you have an excellent vocabulary and grasp of grammar...
Thanks (again) for keeping this pleasant space open.
And happy anniversary.
-Carol S-B
BTW, "didn't make the cut". Ha ha!
DeleteCarol, you have no idea how much I appreciate your 'excellent vocabulary and grasp of grammar' comment! And you totally made the cut - I'll send your decal out this week. Take care, and thanks for reading along!
DeleteNot sure if I made the cut but I will tell you what I love anyway!! For so long, all these mutual friends of ours have said..."you have to check out this blog...all the stuff she makes is so good!!". And over time I remembered now and then to check it out and read it...until it became a bookmark on my laptop! I love all the pictures, the recipes, all the stories relating to places that I know and love here in Yarmouth! My husband especially loves the recipes that I make from your blog, so here's to at least 7 more years of blogging! The more carbs, butter and dessert the better!
ReplyDeleteYou just squeaked in! I'll track you down on FB and we can sort out the details. Thanks so much for your sweet comments. I couldn't be with you more on the carbs, butter & dessert!
DeleteSherrie,
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog and looking at the beautiful photos. The photos and information you post reflect a lifestyle that speaks to me. I love your recipes and the cool things you link to. And, it's alway fun to read the cute stories about your sons. Keep posting!
MelissaR
You guys are amazing and lovely and wonderful. I'll get everything sorted out this week!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind that I'm not in the "top ten" - but want you to know that I thoroughly enjoy your blog - try to check every day to see if there is an update and always enjoy following your posts. We all need a friend in Nova Scotia!!
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks, Linda! :)
DeleteHappy 7 years!!
ReplyDeleteI find your blog energizing - to try something new, bake something differently and, most of all, look at the little tableaus at home or in nature that may not seem magical at first, but alas, they are! I thank you for that.
ReplyDeleteThen I get to use your lovely soap! I was finding these little "what the hell are those" in my bathtub....they were off the lavender soap!
The little windmill in your first photo gave away the location. Love it.
Thanks, Margaret! I love to share a bit of my energy. :) I think you may be mistaken about the first picture, though - it's at my Mom & Dad's. Do you mean the lighthouse or the power lines? I think I know where you think it is, though. :)
DeleteI know I am too late for a decal BUT I still wanted to tell you that I LOVE reading your blog. Even though I may not comment often I am here basking in your glowing energy and positive outlook!! Even when you are having a frustrating time, you are always looking on the bright side. Not to mention I am right there with you in your love of butter! :) Keep posting and I will keep being inspired!
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary. :)
