fabric bags, and how tall are you?

The very sweet Austen (hi, Austen!) sent me two of these amazing fabric storage bags that she made awhile ago, (follow this link for the tutorial) and we've been enjoying them so much that I wanted to share. I had been looking for something to toss the play food and dishes into that looked nice in the pantry (check!) and was easy for the boys to move around (check!). The bottoms are round, so they stand up when they're full, and aren't they cute?

Isn't that a lovely yellow stool in the first picture? Some friends made and gave it to Phillip for his birthday last year. I love it, and probably use it as often as he does - I'm not a tall lady. In fact, I'm a short lady. I was told not too long ago that I 'don't act like a short person'. Which I think was meant as a compliment, but makes me wonder what the general perception of short people is - childish? Shy? Are shorter people more likely to be spoken down to, 'babied', or otherwise made to feel as though that's their place? Is there a way that we short people are expected to act? What do you think? So as an informal survey to satisfy my curiosity: how tall are you? I am 5 feet and 3/4" tall. And Adam is 6'3". Yes, that's a significant discrepancy, and no, I didn't 'steal him from a tall girl'. It also seems that I have a lot of tall female friends. As in 5'11" and taller. (I can think of four immediately.) I'm curious where you all fit? (Perfectly, of course. You look wonderful today, by the way.)

Good news: Phillip finally perked back up today, and I'm still not sick with the ick, so I *think* I've dodged this one!

    1. I love 'medium-tall' - it makes me think of cooking things at a 'medium-high' temperature. :)

    1. I thought of you when I was posting this, Marisa! Given the crazy number of jars in this house, you come to mind pretty frequently. :)

  3. Yea for beating the bug Sherrie! The yellow stool is super cute and I would imagine practical in more ways than one. Despite my height 6'3", I still use a stool from time to time - especially when I'm at home reaching for stuff off the log beams that run across the ceiling or at the rowing club when I need to get shells down off the top racks!

  4. Actually Sherrie the times I've met you in person I don't even notice you're short. I only see you as a beautiful, kind and super friendly person. I'm 5.6 but I think as I'm aging I might be shrinking also. So happy to see your household is back to being sick-free and let's hope it stay's that way for a while.... a long time. Take care. 5. I'm 168cm tall. My little iPhone units app tells me that is 5.511811 feet, 0.00105 miles and 1.78636956376335E-16 light years.

    1. Light years! I love it. It still seems funny to me that here in Canada, for the most part, we still announce birth weights in pounds and ounces, and measure height in feet and inches, even though we've been using the metric system officially for quite awhile. Weather, though, is always celcius. (I'm guessing because people had to get used to it when the forecasters changed on TV and radio; babies and height / weight aren't usually the same kind of daily occurrence.

I am 5' 1" and everyone always comments on how cute and petite I am. I never even think about it until I see myself next to someone taller. I don't act like a small person (whatever that means), I'm just me. There is a photo of me standing next to my 15 year old nephew, who is at least 6' tall, and it's quite comical, if I do say so. Of course, my dad had to stick a copy of it on the refrigerator for all to see.

  7. When at The Ballet School, where many dancers are very, very tall, I was told that I am a mere 5 feet and 3/4" tall.

Clearly, this is the height of genius.

  8. I think that expecting anyone to act a certain way because of outward appearance is just silly. As far as I know, short people don't act any particular way - just like tall people, who don't act any particular way. (Like me! 5'9" over here!)

  9. Gosh, you have seriously talented (and tall...LOL!) friends! :) Love the stool and the bags.

I used to be 5'1"...but at the doctor's office the other day, I'm told that I'm now 5' 3/4". I think I must be your shy, not-Type-A, twin!

  11. I'm 5'5" and guilty of sometimes thinking some people (women more than men) act like "short people". Usually that would mean they talk louder, drive faster, act more businesslike... generally act like they do not want to be mistaken for children--like they are just as "adult" as taller people. Now that you've mentioned it though, I'm sure there are lots of tall people who act the same; I know lots of shorter people who don't.
