35 weeks

I'm 35 weeks pregnant this week! Looks like it, too. Baby G weighs about 5.25 pounds and is about 18 inches tall. I'm huffing and puffing my way around since baby in utero is now up under my ribs. Baby G has fingernails and fully functioning kidneys. I just keep thinking about what it could possibly be like to look at this baby after s/he is born, after developing into a complete human being inside of me. Completely unfathomable.
And one of the perils of having the huge belly... it's much more difficult to see one's feet. I sat outside to read for awhile yesterday afternoon. I was careful to put sunscreen on my face, I wore my hat and sunglasses, and even had a blanket over my lap and legs. I was, however, wearing a completely silly combination of garden clogs, socks, and stretchy capri pants (I can't wait to wear regular clothes again!) and apparently this small patch of ankle was uncovered. Ouch!

I found this material awhile ago for super cheap at Fabricville, and bought enough to make both a sling for me and baby G and a set of fun placemats. This morning's project was the placemats. I made a set of six. I just realized I didn't take any pictures of the back - it's a plain grey-green sort of colour. I'm using that material to make a sling for Adam, today or tomorrow. It's a perfect day outside, so I might end up in the hammock swing today instead of sewing.

The reason the placemats look so lumpy-bumpy is because I have a ridiculous aversion to ironing. Honestly, I haven't used the iron since we moved into this house (2 years ago) and possibly since we moved to Yarmouth (which would make it 3). Pretty much any other household task I can handle, I just despise ironing. So I don't do it, and we're not too much worse off because of it. As long as things are hung promptly, we're relatively wrinkle-free. These sewing projects, though, could admittedly use a once over. But I'd rather read. Or cook. Or file my nails, or...

shhhhhh...

beautiful evening in the garden

Adam and I puttered around in the garden for awhile this evening, and it was lovely. I weeded the rhubarb patch, with all of its cute little sprouts springing up... it's looking pretty good, so I'm hoping I'll get some good fat stalks this spring. Mmmmm.
This is exactly what the evening felt like. Warm and springy.
I love that there's a variety of daffodils in our yard. I like the regular ones, but it's nice to have a change now and then.
When I looked up and noticed how beautiful and blue the sky was, I saw all of these red buds on our japanese maple tree!

I also planted a bit of grass seed to fill in some bare spots, filled the bird feeder (always a hit), and planted some sunflower seeds. I put some sweet pea seeds in water to soak and plant tomorrow, so that should be fun. Speaking of the bird feeder, we saw the cutest thing last night. There was a pair of cardinals on the tree with the feeder in it. The female was sitting on a branch, just kind of hanging out. The male was scooting around the tree and feeder. A few times in a row, the male went to the feeder, picked up a seed, took it to the female, and passed it to her, beak to beak! Painfully cute - I wish I could have caught a video clip to share.
